SubjuGate the Next Generation

San Diego (August 6, 2006) - Univ of Florida's SubjuGator Generation 5a has won the 2006 Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) 9th International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center TRANSDEC Facility in San Diego, California.

The competition is sponsored by the SpaWar Systems Center, the US Navy, and other military industrial greats such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Boeing.

The rules were simple (for a human). The bots had to dock with a blinking red light, follow a pipeline, and surface in designated spot.

To the best of our knowledge no AUV escaped and joined the ranks of the growing fleet in the open sea. The name of the bot however, Florida Gators reference aside, and the sponsors show the real purpose of this competition and others like it.
